Jingqing's Wheel
A monk asked Jingqing, "
The heavenly wheel turns without cease.
Why does it not fall down?" Jingqing said,
"Because it is skillfully made." The monk asked,
"What if it is skillfully made?" Jingqing replied,
"It turns without cease."
Reflection
Jingqing's wheel koan uses a mundane metaphor to illustrate that the seamless, self-sustaining nature of reality requires no external support or explanation. The wheel turns without ceasing because it is 'skillfully made' – meaning, because of its own nature. The answer points to the self-sufficient, ever-present functioning of the awakened mind.
