Zen Stories, the Zen New Tab Chrome Extension, and the Zen Stories iPhone & iPad app are minimalist products designed to provide inspirational Zen stories, quotes, and short guided breathing exercises. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information.

Zen Stories Website

Hosting & Analytics

The Zen Stories website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages with a custom domain. We use Cloudflare Analytics to understand basic traffic patterns. This is the only analytics service we use.

What Cloudflare Analytics tracks — only aggregated, anonymous data:

• Unique visitors: count of individual visitors to the site
• Sessions: number of visits to the site
• Country: geographic location (country-level only)

What we do NOT track:

• No personal identification information (names, emails, etc.)
• No IP addresses
• No individual page views
• No browsing behavior or click tracking
• No device fingerprinting
• No cookies set by us

Local Storage

• Theme Preference: We store your light/dark mode preference locally in your browser using localStorage.
• This data never leaves your device and is only used to remember your theme choice.
• No servers: all data remains on your local device.

Information We Collect

1. Chrome Storage API Data

• Theme Preference: We store your dark/light mode theme preference locally on your device using Chrome's storage API (chrome.storage.local).
• This data never leaves your device and is only used to remember your theme choice.
• No servers: all data stays on your local computer.

2. No Personal Data Collection

We do NOT collect: personal identification information (name, email, etc.), browsing history, usage analytics, location data, or any information about the websites you visit. No data is transmitted to any server.

Permissions Used

This extension requires the following permission:

• storage — Purpose: to save your theme preference (light/dark mode) using Chrome's storage API. Allows the extension to remember your choice through chrome.storage.local. Data stored: only your theme setting. Data shared: none — all data stays on your device.

Zen Stories iPhone & iPad App

The Zen Stories app is built to be completely private by default. We do not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. Everything below happens only on your device.

On-device storage

The app stores the following locally on your device to remember your experience:

• Theme preference (light / dark / auto)
• Text size preference (S / M / L)
• Display name (only if you choose to enter one — entirely optional)
• Reading progress & statistics (day streak, stories read, stamps earned, certificates)
• Favorites / bookmarks (the stories and quotes you've saved)
• Onboarding completion (so the intro only shows once)
• Cached content (the stories and quotes fetched from zenstories.blog, so the app works offline)

This data never leaves your device. There are no servers and no accounts.

Notifications (optional)

If you choose to enable the optional daily reminder:

• The app schedules a local notification at a time you choose, using iOS's built-in notification system.
• These reminders are created and delivered entirely on your device.
• No push notifications are sent from any server. No data is transmitted to us to enable reminders.
• You can turn reminders off at any time in the app's Settings, and you can revoke notification permission in iOS Settings → Zen Stories → Notifications.

Audio

The meditation timer plays short ambient and bell sounds that are bundled inside the app. No audio is streamed from, or sent to, any server.

Content fetching

To show you the latest stories and quotes, the app downloads stories.json and quotes.json from zenstories.blog (the same public files the website uses) and caches them on your device for offline reading. This is a standard HTTPS request to your own website; we do not attach any identifiers to it.

Sharing

If you choose to share a story, quote, or certificate, the app uses iOS's native Share Sheet. What you share and whom you share it with is entirely under your control.

What we do NOT collect via the app:

• No personal identification information
• No usage analytics or crash reporting
• No advertising or tracking SDKs
• No account or sign-in
• No access to your contacts, photos, location, microphone, or camera

Third-Party Services

Zen Stories Website: We use Cloudflare for hosting and analytics (Cloudflare Pages for hosting and content delivery; Cloudflare Analytics for basic traffic analytics — unique visitors, sessions, country only). We do NOT use any other third-party services for the website, including: no Google Analytics or other third-party analytics, no advertising services, no tracking scripts or pixels, no cloud storage services, and no external APIs.

Zen New Tab Chrome Extension: The extension does NOT use any third-party services.

Zen Stories iPhone & iPad App: The app does NOT use any third-party services. It contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising networks, and no trackers. The only network requests it makes are to zenstories.blog to fetch the public stories and quotes content.

Data Security

• Website: all preference data is stored locally in your browser using localStorage.
• Extension: all data is stored locally via chrome.storage.local.
• App: all data is stored locally on your device using iOS secure storage. No data is transmitted over the internet (except the public content fetch described above), and no data is shared with any third parties.

You can clear your data at any time: through your browser settings (website), through your browser or extension settings (extension), or by deleting the app, which removes all locally stored data (app).

Children's Privacy

Zen Stories Website: The website content (Zen stories and readings) is intended for users who are 13 years of age or older, as some stories may contain themes and concepts more suitable for mature audiences.

Zen New Tab Chrome Extension: The Chrome extension displays inspirational Zen quotes and is suitable for general audiences. The content is appropriate for all users.

Zen Stories iPhone & iPad App: The app's reading content is intended for users who are 13 years of age or older, consistent with the website. The breathing/meditation feature is gentle and suitable for a general audience.

We do not collect any personal information from users of any age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
